Washington [US], April 30: U.S. President Donald Trump has removed Doug Emhoff, the husband of former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, from the Holocaust Memorial Council.
Doug Emhoff, the husband of former US Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, has joined the anti-Semitic effort in former President Joe Biden's administration.
"Let me make this clear: The commemoration of the victims of the Jewish Genocide and related education should never be politicized," said Mr. Emhoff, a Jew appointed by Mr. Biden to the council.
The New York Times previously reported that the Office of Presidential Personnel at the White House sent an email to the council on the morning of April 29 (Washington time) announcing the removal of Kamala Harris' husband from the council and the decision took effect immediately.
The U.S. Congress established the council in 1980 to lead the commemoration of the victims of the Jewish Holocaust.
In 1993, the council established the Holocaust Memorial Museum. The council now has more than 50 members and is appointed by the president.
After confirming his dismissal, Emhoff said he would remain committed to participating in Holocaust memorial activities and education about the genocide, as well as contributing to the eradication of hatred and anti-Semitism.
"I will continue to speak up, participate in education and fight against hate in all its forms, because silence is never an option," he said.
Several others who have been fired from the Holocaust Memorial Council by the current Washington administration include Biden's former White House chief of staff Ron Klain; Ms. Susan Rice, former Domestic Policy Advisor; Anthony Bernal, an aide to former first lady Jill Biden, according to The New York Times.
