Washington DC (US), July 22 (ANI): In a major turn of events, US President Joe Biden opted out of the presidential race for the 2024 election on July 21. In a letter posted on X, US Prez Joe Biden announced that he is not seeking re-election in the “best interest” of the party, country. His decision comes after many Democrats called for his withdrawal after a poor debate performance against Donald Trump. Joe Biden, after withdrawing from the presidential race, endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the top post. Former US President Barack Obama lauded his fellow Democratic leader calling “patriot of the highest order”. However, former US President Barack Obama, while praising Biden, refrained from extending his support to VP Harris. Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi also declined to endorse Kamala Harris while hailing Biden for his tenure. Notably, only four days before announcement, Biden was diagnosed with COVID-19 for a third time. Earlier, more than one in 10 congressional Democrats had called publicly for him to quit the race.
